20 Things I'm Leaving Behind in 2023

My word going into 2023 was identity.

This year was all about discovering who I am and untwining my self-worth from my career and academics. The process of shedding old mindsets and tearing down idols can be painful, but it’s also necessary to bring us back into alignment.

Still, as trying as this year was, I’m grateful for the lows because they showed me what God can do with a yielded vessel.

All that said, I am so ready to close this chapter and look ahead to what the new year holds.

Here are 20 things I’m planning to leave in 2023:

  1. Ruminating on could’ves, should’ves, and would’ves

  2. Subscribing to hustle culture

  3. Praying small

  4. Holding too tightly to my plans

  5. Underinvesting in friendships

  6. FOMO

  7. Rushing to the next goal without celebrating the last one

  8. Neglecting rest

  9. Taking my singleness for granted

  10. Guarding my heart with a wall instead of a gate

  11. Unforgiveness

  12. Suppressing my personal style

  13. Unrealistic budgets expectations

  14. Toxic positivity

  15. Taking things too personally

  16. Rejecting help from others

  17. Procrastination

  18. Underestimating my skillset

  19. Waiting for the weekends

  20. Treating life like a sprint instead of a marathon

What are you leaving behind in 2023? Let me know down below and have a happy New Year!

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Great post!

heavy on the leaving “negative self talk“ behind and I’ll add I’m focused on disentangling my identity from work and school.

Beautiful!!!

I'm leaving behind procrastination, caring about what people think, self-sabotage.

Yes to all of these things to leave behind in 2023.

Mines also are 8.) Neglecting rest, 9.) Taking my singleness for granted , 13.) Unrealistic budget expectations- always trying to live lavish but living beyond my means.

Also I would add not doing enough of sabbaticals and self-care, it was like being a non stop machine. Very unhealthy!!

I look forward doing the opposite enjoying the single season I'm in, look forward to more progression. More self love and care. More joy and fun times. More prayer, more community and more trust In God and his timing.
